Laia Acarín Award for Young Researchers

On 29 December 2011, our colleague Laia Acarin Pérez-Simó, Professor and researcher at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, passed away at the age of 41 after a rapid illness. Laia was an integral part of the Board of Directors of the RGE and one of its main promoters in recent years. Her cheerful and enthusiastic character and her dedication and hard work left a deep impression on those of us who knew her.

During 2012, at the proposal of the Board of Directors of the RGE, it was decided to create a prize with her name, for young researchers. This award serves as a memorial and tribute to Laia and as part of her legacy to the Spanish and international scientific community.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE AWARD

The award recognises the best work on glial cells published by researchers in their predoctoral or early postdoctoral stage (two years after thesis defence). Both basic and clinical research articles related to the study of any type of glial cell will be accepted. Nominations are evaluated by a scientific committee of the Spanish Glial Network, whose members may not be listed as signatories.

  • Have a publication that has appeared during the two years preceding the call for applications (publications "in press" are accepted).
  • The first signatory must be a pre-doctoral or early-stage postdoctoral researcher (no more than two years after the date of defence of the doctoral thesis at the time of application).
  • Most of the experimental work included in the publication will have been carried out in a Spanish laboratory.
  • The journal must be included in the Science Citation Index.

Submission of applications:

  • Papers should be sent by email to redglial@gmail.com in pdf format, together with a short CV (maximum 2 pages) including an abstract of no more than 250 words highlighting the researcher's role in the research conducted.
  • The deadline for the submission of applications and the resolution of the award will be published on the website of the RGE.

Prize conditions:
